Building accountable leadership from the grassroots up

We believe that good governance is not just a policy goal—it’s a lived experience that begins in our communities. When leaders are transparent, responsive, and accountable, society thrives.

To promote a better society, we’ve established a dynamic network of Local Government Good Governance Monitors—a group of over 200 passionate young advocates drawn from the 95 Local Government Areas in Southeast Nigeria. These monitors serve as community vanguards, actively tracking governance performance in both urban and rural areas.

Their work includes

  1. Monitoring and reporting on the delivery of public services and leadership performance.
  2. Educating community members on their rights and responsibilities related to governance, human rights, rule of law, and anti-corruption.
  3. Engaging local authorities to demand transparency and accountability.
  4. Documenting and escalating cases of abuse or mismanagement  for further action.

Each member of the network is equipped with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to advocate effectively and ethically. Their efforts are helping to build a culture of civic responsibility and leadership accountability across the region.

This initiative directly supports SDG 16: Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
