The Soro Soke Project - (Project Closed)
Standing Up Against Police Brutality in Southeast Nigeria
The Soro Soke Project was a bold step toward justice for young people in Southeast Nigeria. Funded by VOICE, this initiative brought together key voices—police chiefs, youth commissioners, human rights agencies, and religious leaders—from across Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi States to address the growing concern of police brutality and the abuse of youth rights.
But it wasn’t just about dialogue—it was about action.
We trained and empowered 95 young advocates as Human Rights Anchors in their communities.
These anchors became frontline defenders, raising awareness and responding to violations.
Their efforts led to the release of 70 unjustly detained youths in Aba, Abia state during the #EndSARS protests (2020)
The project created a ripple effect—sparking conversations, building networks, and inspiring youth-led advocacy across the region.
Though the project has officially ended, its legacy lives on through the empowered youth still standing up for justice.

Local Government Good Governance Monitor Project - (Project Closed)
A powerful example of what happens when young people take the lead in holding institutions accountable.
With support from OSIWA, we trained and mobilized 195 youth advocates across Southeast Nigeria to monitor how local governments deliver primary education and healthcare services in their communities.
Here’s what we accomplished:
- Visited over 1,500 primary schools and 800 healthcare centers to assess their condition and service delivery.
- Engaged with 95 Local Government offices to understand their roles and responsibilities in improving education and healthcare.
- Organized advocacy town hall meetings with LGA officials to present findings and push for sustainable solutions.
The result?
A comprehensive status report on primary education and healthcare delivery in Southeast Nigeria—shared with over 2,000 stakeholders, including government officials, activists, religious and traditional leaders, and development organizations.
