On June 17, 2026, Seesay Radio Reporting Programme focused on the various health insurance packages available to Nigerians.
During the one-hour interactive session, anchor Blessing Iriaka enlightened listeners on the different health insurance plans designed for various groups of people.
She explained that government workers are covered under the Public Sector Social Health Insurance Programme, while employees in private organizations can access coverage through the Organized Private Sector Health Insurance Programme.
She also discussed the Group, Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP), highlighting its different categories and benefits for individuals, families, retirees, and other groups outside formal employment.
During the programme, a caller, Nene, who stated that she was previously enrolled under the public sector plan but is now a retiree, sought guidance on the most suitable health insurance package for her current status. Another caller expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme (IMSHIA), claiming that he had not received meaningful healthcare services despite enrolling under the Governor’s free healthcare package.
