Community Reporting Webinar Inspires Citizens to Become Voices for Change
The CSAAE Civil Society Advocacy Centre successfully hosted an engaging and impactful Community Reporters Network Webinar on Thursday, 9th July 2026, with the theme: “Community Reporting: A Tool for Accountability, Advocacy and Social Change.”

The virtual event brought together participants from different backgrounds who expressed interest in becoming part of the growing Community Reporters Network.
The webinar featured Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, Executive Director of Media Career Development Network and Managing Director of The Nation Newspaper, as the guest speaker.
In a practical and insightful presentation, Mr. Otufodunrin simplified the concept of community reporting, describing it as “reporting the community.” He emphasized that many people focus on national and global events while neglecting the challenges affecting their immediate communities.

According to him, meaningful social change begins when citizens pay attention to the issues around them and intentionally tell the stories that matter.
He further highlighted the importance of responsible and ethical community reporting, urging participants to verify information, maintain objectivity, and avoid sensationalism. He encouraged aspiring community reporters to work closely with credible organizations such as the CSAAE Civil Society Advocacy Centre, explaining that organizations can help amplify community reports, advocate for lasting solutions, and connect reported issues with the appropriate authorities rather than individuals trying to solve every problem on their own.
The interactive session gave participants a better understanding of the role community reporters play in promoting accountability, civic participation, and sustainable development within their communities. Questions from participants further enriched the discussion, reflecting a growing interest in citizen-led advocacy.

The Community Reporters Network remains open to everyone, including teachers, students, farmers, artisans, market women, professionals, and every concerned citizen who is passionate about driving positive change in their communities.
Through this initiative, CSAAE is building a network of active citizens committed to the simple but powerful principle:
“See Something, Say Something.”
By empowering ordinary people to report community issues responsibly, the Community Reporters Network seeks to strengthen accountability, inspire advocacy, and create lasting social change, one community at a time.
