SEESAY Radio Program: Quality Education in Nigeria

The latest edition of the SEESAY Radio Reporting Program, organized by C-Advocate News in partnership with Ozisa FM and the Ubenwanne Foundation, featured a thought-provoking discussion on the topic “Improving Access to Quality Education.”

The program hosted Mr. Okpe, a Talent and Development Expert, and Dr. Goodness the CEdu Coordinator at CSAAE and an Education consultant, who shared insightful perspectives on what truly constitutes quality education and the reforms needed to strengthen Nigeria’s education system.

Speaking during the program, Mr. Okpe emphasized that quality education can only be achieved when teachers are well-trained, motivated, and adequately supported.

According to him, schools should become impact-driven rather than examination-driven, focusing on developing skills and competencies rather than merely producing good test results.

He further advocated for practical education reforms, recommending a system where students spend part of their academic semesters in the classroom and part in the field, gaining hands-on experience that prepares them for real-life challenges.

On her part, Dr. Goodness described quality education as one that focuses on the wholesome development of the child, rather than an obsession with academic positions and rankings. She noted that many parents today place excessive emphasis on grades and class positions while overlooking character development, emotional well-being, and life skills.

Dr. Goodness also stressed the importance of building strong relationships with children, stating that teachers, parents, and guardians must first connect to a child before they can effectively correct that child and support their learning journey.

The discussion generated valuable reflections on the role of teachers, parents, schools, communities, and policymakers in ensuring that every child has access to meaningful and transformative education.

As the conversation revealed the complexity and importance of the subject, the SEESAY team announced that the discussion on quality education will continue as a special series, with future episodes dedicated to examining educational challenges and solutions in Nigeria, particularly in Imo State.

The SEESAY Radio Reporting Program continues to provide a platform for citizens, experts, and stakeholders to discuss issues affecting governance, development, and the well-being of children and communities.
